Feels Like Home

We've been living in a hotel on an Army base in Georgia for a month now.  At first it was an adjustment. We like to play outside. That's easy to do at home as I can just open the door and walk on out to the yard. The things I take for granted, sigh. Being that the only way to get outside is to make our way 6 floors down, we didn't get to come and go as we liked. So for a few hours, once a day (at least until Nick was off work), we get to play. Some days we go for walks. Those have to happen before noon, otherwise it gets too hot for the kids to be riding bikes and the Ergo becomes an inferno for Ava.

We've gotten a routine down and everyone seems to be quite content with the way things are working.  I love how adaptable we are. I do think routine is key. You can make life work in just about any situation if you have routine.

We will be heading back to Virginia next week. It's going to be bittersweet. I have to say goodbye to my husband and the kids to their papa, AGAIN. I'll be driving 9+ hours alone. I'll be saying goodbye to a place I've come to love.  I should mention we've lived in Virginia 2 years now and I still don't love it. I'm trying.

It's weird. This place, the south, Georgia, Augusta, it feels like home. Everyone here always has a kind thing to say. I haven't been honked at for not going 10 miles over the speed limit. People smile at you as you walk by. I've tried to tell myself that it's just a state of mind. That's not it though, this area has the reputation of "Southern Hospitality" for a reason. I'm thankful for the reminder that not everywhere does someone sit in traffic for 40 minutes just to get to the grocery store, that people don't always have to be in a hurry, and that people do enjoy doing nice things for you, just because.

Thank you Georgia for making me feel like home, when I'm so very far away from my house.

(The pictures above are of the kids playing dress-up in one of Nick's classmates clothes!  She has taken the kids on numerous occasions. Another reason I've loved being here, the forming of a close-knit community.)
