Field Trip: Edventure Children's Museum

This being our last weekend in Augusta that won't be spent getting ready to drive home to Virginia, I wanted to do something fun with the kids.  The last few weekends we have gone to Wormsloe PlantationAugusta Farmer's Market, and hung around Ft. Gordon. I had thought briefly of going to the aquarium in Atlanta, but decided that even with the military discount, it was still way too expensive. From our trip to the Baltimore Aquarium, I knew that it would be a bunch of running around after a bored Gavin and I didn't think it would be the most enjoyable last trip in Georgia. So, we decided to head up to Colombia, SC to visit the Edventure Children's Museum. It was a success! I didn't tell them where we were going, I thought surprising them would make it even more fun! The kids (including Gavin) played for HOURS. There was even a room for ages 3 and under where babies could crawl around. We briefly stayed in there at the end because Gavin was getting tired and Ava was tired of being in the Ergo.

When we first walked in, we encountered Ed, the 60 foot child. What was really cool, was that you could climb INSIDE Ed's body. It gave the kids a chance to view his body from the inside, kind of like a Magic School Bus book!  There were all kinds of exhibits that most would find in any children's museum. They had a grocery section, a library, a veterinarian office, and even a fire truck to climb around in. There was also a room for kids to practice different things to do with construction, an outdoor area to play in the water and explore how the movement of water makes things go.  Upstairs, they had a craft room and music room. In one area the kids got to play a life size game of Operation!

My favorite was the butterfly exhibit. It was fantastic. Normally, you'd have to pay a fee at the zoo to get some sort of special access, but this was included in admission.

I'm so glad we spent the day there.  The kids all had a really good time and I'd recommend it to anyone in the area!
