Two.

Yesterday Gavin turned two.  How did that happen? Wasn't I just bringing him home from the hospital? Please Gavin, can't we just pause for a minute? Can't we just relish in today? So many questions, all answered by time.

We celebrated the evening with traditional banana splits instead of cake. It's so much more fun and we aren't really cake fans around here. I made some homemade chocolate syrup to top it with. I found the recipe here.  I was going to make some whipped cream as well, but when I tried to pour it into a bowl, it was as hard as a rock. The date even said it was good for a few more weeks!

He received the Runaway Bunny from Haylie. A book she purchased from the used book store. (Hello bargain shopper!)  Kaileb spent 10 times the amount on a talking cookie jar. We picked up a small table and chairs set from Ikea, but we also eyed the tent above and knew it would be a hit.  We kept it simple this year and it was great.  He had no idea what having a birthday meant and even though I tried to get him to say "Two!" all day, he was just plain happy to open gifts and eat ice cream.

I'm so happy to see the little guy he is becoming, but sorrowfully missing a time when he was just two days old, not two years. I think all moms feel this way at one point, but it's hitting me especially hard. Maybe it's not knowing for sure if we will have another baby again, or just that the last two years have consisted of three moves and the birth of sweet Ava.
