Last week Ferry Farm had a homeschool day. When I take the kids public places I usually brace for Gavin to have a rough time. He is just two and therefore needs constant stimulus. He did throw a couple of fits when he didn't get to do what the older kids were doing. For the majority of the time though, he took part in the activities.
Ferry Farm was the boyhood home of George Washington. The Washington family moved there when George was just six years old. It is right on the water and a perfect location for a farm.. It's located in Fredericksburg, VA. If you'd like to know more about Ferry Farm you can click here.
There were colonial games set up for everyone to enjoy. Gavin liked the bowling the best. Haylie and Kaileb were more interested in the colonial chores. They learned how to wash clothes outside of a washing machine, how to string beans, and how hard it was to make cornmeal! I was impressed by the beautiful garden showcasing plants that must have been grown by colonial gardeners.
It was a chilly morning, but warmed up towards the end. We ended our time with a picnic on the grounds. I so enjoyed the learning experience that took us out of the house and into another time. The kids purchased a Jacob's ladder game and have been busying themselves with it since we got home!
