a birthday omen
I hadn't been particularly looking forward to this years birthday. The past couple of years Nick and I have gone to a restaurant in DC, last year my parents even joined us. This year we didn't have a sitter so we just talked about revisiting the idea when our kids are old enough to stay home, like in 20 years. You may be wondering why we didn't go as a family. Simply put by our waiter, "This place is often frequented by Michelle Obama." Also, there isn't one table large enough to fit our family and the wait is usually longer than the drive to NYC from my house (A loooooong time). On the bright side even if we had made plans it wouldn't have worked out. My poor Gavin spent the entire morning using me as his vomit bucket. It was really great as Nick and I had just shampooed the carpet and Gavin had no idea what was happening so he was running around just spewing everywhere.
You see I already had a feeling something crazy would happen. I can count on one hand the amount of successful birthdays I've had. I'd had a dream two nights before my birthday that some sort of catastrophic event would take place. I laughed about it with Nick and the kids because in all seriousness I just think it's silly that my birthday is always a day that I can count on something odd happening.
Thankfully, Gavin getting sick was the worst of that day. Nick knows that cake isn't really my favorite thing. I'm not a fan of frosting and can only eat a couple of bites. I didn't complain when he brought home an ice cream cake though! I've never been one to turn down frozen chocolate anything.
We ended the day with Haylie's first ever soccer practice. That was a wonderful gift.
Unfortuantely I didn't get many pictures of the day because of the whole vomitastrophe.
