Yesterday the first signs of consistent warmth showed promise. It did snow on Sunday but it didn't stick. I've been using the time stuck inside to my advantage no doubt, but now I want to drop all projects and spend my time out enjoying every minute of radiant sunlight until winter rears it's freezing cold head again.
I put on my favorite oatmeal this morning and threw on a sweater. My camera has been making few appearances lately, so I thought it a perfect morning to sit out with the birds. I had completely bamboozled myself into believing spring was here and it was going to be 65 degrees out. Still, it was nice to be outside in the peace of nature before eight little feet made their way down the stairs. Most morning Gavin beats me downstairs. I wish I could get up at 5:30 every morning with as much energy as that two year old. Pregnancy itself doesn't allow someone to wake up feeling refreshed. The excitement of a beautiful day had me anxious to start.
This morning time spent outside reminded me that I had planted some kale, lettuce, and peas. The overly long winter and many feet of snow over the last few weeks prevented anything from growing. Thoughts of replanting the kale and lettuce quickly approached me and I think we will spend this week planting our cool weather vegetables. It's finally safe. At least I'll tell myself that. By the grace of God those little pea shoots survived and have been thriving the past couple of days in the rain and sun. Our backyard is a mess after winter took it's toll. We have much cleaning up of debris including the remainder of the dead trees we had to cut down.
I'm so looking forward to the summer and the memories to come. The kids spent a lot of time yesterday making bows out of sticks and string and armor out of cardboard. Nick I couldn't help but appreciate their care-free attitude as they "speared" each other out front. The great beauty of homeschooling is that at this time in their lives, they just don't care what other people think. Making armor out of cardboard is very cool and memorizing poems about April makes them proud.
How are you spending your first days of Spring?
