Apparently, every 17 years we get a slew of cicadas. Having only lived on the East Coast for 2 years, we weren't here the last time around, so this is all new to us. Their genus name is Magicicada. We started to see little holes all over the ground where they were emerging but hadn't really seen the nymphs anywhere. Soon though, we were seeing them everywhere. Pretty much every where we looked we could find at least one. They seem to be really attracted to Gavin because I kept finding them crawling over him! The nymphs then molt and emerge as winged creatures with big red eyes. The molted shells are then all over the place. Kinda gross. Thankfully, they don't bite or sting. If that were the case, this girl would be living indoors all summer! Some people find the loud humming of them to be irritating but the kids and I rather enjoy it, for now at least. Of course, Kaileb has been out collecting them with his bug net and placing them in a big container. At one point he said "Look, they are all being best friends! They're having a party, except for this one, he's having a sleepover." I'll let you decide if it was "sleeping."
