Seven
Last Saturday my first born son turned a whopping seven. I can't even believe it has been seven years since the day I was handed a beautiful seven pound baby boy. Each birthday one of my children has reminds me that every moment as a parent is so wonderful, even if it is covered in poop, vomit, or something I can't quite figure out exactly. Before I know it, it's really over.
I spent some time looking through a few pictures of his toddler days, remembering how hard those years really were. Nothing in life had prepared me for raising a boy. I have two sisters and growing up had just always imagined myself as a mother of girls. God saw differently and I'm so blessed he did.
For his birthday Nick wanted to give him a fishing pole. They had been fishing recently and he knew it was something worth giving. I don't like to give gifts without meaning or use. Toys are great, but I don't want to waste money on something that MIGHT get played with! He loved it and we spent the morning down at the lake, freezing our babushkas off, monitoring Gavin's every move, and catching the dreaded blue gill over and over until we couldn't stand it anymore!
We spent the rest of the day at Mt. Vernon but I think that deserves its own post. We made it back in time for our neighborhood Halloween party. Our neighbor made a cake for Kaileb and another neighbor who shares the same birthday! It was so sweet!
The next birthday here is Ms. Ava turning one!
